A study of knowledge, attitude, and self-efficacy for preventing falls among long term care facilities¡¯ direct care workers in Korea

Abstract
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to explore knowledge, attitude, and self-efficacy for preventing falls and to investigate relations among them for direct care workers working in long-term care facilities.

Method: The study utilized the cross-sectional descriptive correlational design using the survey method. The study subjects were direct care workers, those who were all women. The study scales were composed of a total 45 items measuring demographic characteristics, fall-related knowledge, attitude, and self-efficacy for preventing falls. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, and Pearson¡¯s correlation analysis using SPSS WIN 21.0 program.

Results: A total of 160 subjects were included for the analysis. Statistically significant positive relationship was founded between attitude and knowledge(r=.224, p=.006) attitude and efficacy(r=.293, p=<.001).

Conclusion: The findings of this study provide useful information for developing effective fall prevention programs.
